John Mandeville promoted to Major and Chief Deputy

Maj. John Mandeville, Chief Deputy of Botetourt County.

John Mandeville has been promoted to the rank of Major in the Botetourt County Sheriff’s Dept. As of March 1, he also assumed the Chief Deputy position vacated by the retirement of Maj. Delbert Dudding in February.

Mandeville is a veteran of 32 years in law enforcement. He is a graduate of Alleghany High School, attended Dabney S. Lancaster, is a graduate of the Virginia Forensic Science Academy and the FBI National Academy.

As a Sheriff’s Department Captain, he oversaw investigations and road supervisors. Mandeville is married to his wife Joyce, a teacher in the Botetourt County School Division and they have a grown son Matt who is in his third year of law school.
