Never After Happily Presented by Attic Productions Opens Tomorrow Night
Once upon a time, at a local theatre not so far away, comes a fairy tale production that answers the question, ‘and then what happens?’
Kelli Hobson makes her directorial debut with Never After Happily, also marking her 10th show with Attic Productions. She wants audiences to expect a good time and have plenty of laughs – but be ready for a deeper meaning that might just touch your heart.
Hobson describes the show, “the play reintroduces you to a lot of the fairy tale characters that you might remember from when you were a kid and that you still know today. We have a more mature version of Cinderella, or ‘Cindy’ as she’s called now, and we meet her at kind of a crossroads in her life where she’s a woman of a more mature age. She and Prince Charming have done their jobs, they’ve ruled their kingdom, and now they’re retired. So they’re kind of taking a step back, and Cindy, especially, she’s wondering where does she fit in now that she’s in this new place in her life.”
You can expect to see a lot of classic characters, including: Prince Charming, The Big Bad Wolf, Rapunzel, and Rumplestiltskin. Hobson hopes the show will inspire audiences to think about life a little differently.
Hobson also makes a point to mention the importance of the villains, “the Big Bad Wolf and The Witch, they’re at a different place where they struggle with only being known for the terrible things that they did. And they’re trying to change things. They’re trying to turn things around and be seen as just regular people who are trying to make up for their mistakes.”
From the Attic Productions Page:
Welcome to an enchanted kingdom where all your favorite fairy tale characters have come to retell their stories in fun and unique ways and—NOPE! Scratch that, we’re not doin’ that! We’ve all heard these stories a bazillion times, and Ella ain’t havin’ it. See, Ella’s a woman of a certain age who has bulldozed her way into this fairy tale world. And she’s got a bone to pick. She’s tired of the false promises of “happily ever after” that never come true in the real world. Ella’s not retelling these stories—she’s just writing what happens AFTER the endings, where reality collides with fairy tales in very messy ways. Now, a middle-aged Cinderella and the entire kingdom are rocked as these aging ingénues and neurotic princes try to deal with life after that perfect moment. Part farce, part vaudeville, part SNL, a little Rocky Horror and a totally wild ride that no one ever imagined after “happily ever after.”
