BOCO Fit Rage in NC event

September 10, 2018- “Find Your Tribe. Love them hard.” That was the theme of this amazing group of women from the BOCO Fit Rage gym. Finding motivation for physical fitness and wellness can always be a challenge, but the culture at this local gym makes joining the tribe and finding your place so easy.

As part of an annual ritual Melissa Ferguson planned to sign up for the Ramblin Rose in Wiston-Salem, NC. This triathlon that helps support the YWCAs of North Carolina has been something that Melissa had been doing for the past decade. This year, her goal was to inspire a team from Fit Rage to go complete the triathlon together. She had no clue what was in store.

Throughout the summer, a group of over twenty women banded together to prepare for the rigors of a triathlon, many for the first time. These ladies continued their normal workouts at the gym, plus put in the extra blood, sweat, and tears to get prepped. Running.  Biking. Swimming.  Every day there was something to do to get the troops ready. A private Facebook group established for the group tracked the progress, announced the events, and kept these ladies pushing every day.

After a period of three months and dozens of practice sessions, these Fit Ragers got unexpected bad news. A flood at the Winston-Salem YWCA damaged the facility to the point that the pool would not be operable by the date of the event. Nothing killed the spirit of these ladies. If anything this setback pushed them to work harder. On Sunday, August 19th the group woke up to face the challenge of the day. Everyone made their way to the start line with their bikes and all their accessories in tow. Eight miles of hard-core biking and 2 miles of running later, plus a few before and after burpees and these ladies had accomplished amazing feats.

Since a duathlon isn’t what these ladies practiced and poured their hearts into preparing for, many have registered for yet another triathlon, as the Ramblin Rose series offered consolation discounts for their other races. The training continues for those preparing to do it all over again.

This is just one of the many examples of the culture at BOCO Fit Rage, a local gym started and owned by Kristen Reimer. This gym is more than just a place to work out, it’s a fitness family. Encouragement, empowerment, and community are the themes that even the newest member can immediately sense in joining this awesome tribe.
