BTEC Weld-Off held May 7th

Altec Industries and Botetourt Technical School hosted the 3rd Annual Altec Weld Off on April 30th at the BTEC Welding Labs. 26 students from Botetourt, Salem High, Patrick County High, Roanoke Technical, Burton and Floyd County attended for their chance to compete.

This welding competition required students to demonstrate their fitting and welding skills to be judged, a classroom style weld test, Seniors came prepared with a resume to interview for positions with Altec and Underclassmen participated in an interactive interview etiquette demonstration.

1st place Senior – Wyatt McCoy from BTEC, 2nd Place Cole Maggi from Salem and 3rd Place Carson West from Floyd County.

1st place Underclassmen – Ethan Carr from BTEC, 2nd place Cooper French from ROTEC, and 3rd place Nick Meadows from BTEC.

The competition allowed Seniors and Underclassmen that placed 1st, 2nd and 3rd to win welding gear prize packages valued at $500+. The 1st place Senior also won a brand new Lincoln Welding Machine.

Students enjoyed a pizza lunch donated by Dominos in Daleville.

Altec donated $1,000 to the BTEC Welding Program and discussed employment opportunities to students!
