Legal Notice of Public Hearing for Voting District Changes in Botetourt County VA

LEGAL NOTICE 

NOTICE OF PUBLIC HEARING  

OF THE BOTETOURT COUNTY  

BOARD OF SUPERVISORS 

Pursuant to Virginia Code Sections 15.2-1427 and 24.2-306, a public hearing will be held by theBotetourt County Board of Supervisors to consider and receive comments on the proposed ordinanceto repeal and reenact Botetourt County Code, Chapter 9 – Elections, for the purpose ofredistricting. The redistricting proposal calls for changes to six of the County’s ten voting precinct boundaries to maintain the mandated equivalent population levels in each magisterial district based on the 2020 census data. The public hearing will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday, March22, 2022, in the Botetourt County Administration Center at 57 S. Center Drive, Daleville, Virginia, at whichtime anycitizen of Botetourt Countyshall have theright toattend and state his or her views. Information may be reviewed in the Department of Elections and Voter Registration Office at 2 East Main Street, Fincastle from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday through Friday, or in the County Administrator’s Office at 57 S. Center Drive, Daleville, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays, in the County’s libraries, and on the County’s website.  A brief summaryof the proposed changes are as follows: 

AMSTERDAM DISTRICT TO FINCASTLE DISTRICT – moves the southern boundary between the Amsterdam and Fincastle Districts from Catawba Creek southward to Blackberry Lane and Country Club Road, incorporating that area north of Blackberry Lane and Country Club Road between Blacksburg Road and Catawba Creek that is currently in the Amsterdam District into the Fincastle District. 

BUCHANAN DISTRICT TO FINCASTLE DISTRICT – moves Fincastle District boundary eastward to include the area between Salt Petre Cave Road, Shiloh Church Road, Shiloh Drive and Narrow Passage Road. 

FINCASTLE DISTRICT TO BUCHANAN DISTRICT – shifts the area between Interstate 81 and Brughs Mill Road and Ammen Road from the Fincastle District to the Buchanan District. 

VALLEY DISTRICT TO BUCHANAN DISTRICT – shifts the Buchanan District boundary southward in two areas: 1) between Interstate 81 and US Route 11 from Gravel Hill Road to the Town of Troutville boundary (west of US Route 11); and 2) from the railway line between Stoney Battery Road and Houston Mines Road south to the boundary of the Appalachian Scenic Trail and west, generally to Stoney Battery Road and/or Stoney Battle Creek (east of US Route 11). 

All other magisterial district boundaries and precinct boundaries remain the same.A complete copy of the proposed Ordinance with adescription of each magisterial district boundary and precinct boundary may be foundon the County’s website at www.botetourtva.gov.
