School budget cut by BOS but approved

New positions, teacher pay raises, school buses and lap tops will not be in the school budget after the Botetourt Board of Supervisors trimmed 1.8 million from the school division budget on May 12.

However, the schools will receive over 609,000 in the state mandated Special Education positions and finishing touches for the new Colonial Elementary School.

Because state funding is still not set, the board will revisit the budget every three months as the financial fall-out from the Coronavirus becomes visible.

The School Budget by state law had to be approved by May 15.

The Board of Supervisors has yet to set a tax rate nor finalize the County budget which is expected before the June deadline to approve the total budget. The Fiscal Year 20-21 budget begins on July 1.
