Northam announces three phases in Re-opening Virginia

Gov. Ralph Northam announced Monday May 4 a three phase program for re-opening Virginia.

He said the phases will begin May 15.

He expects each phase to last at least two-three weeks as long as cases in Covid -19 do not spike. So to get to phase three, it could be 4-6 weeks.

They are as follows:

Phase 1
Physical distancing remains in place
Enhanced cleaning and disinfection guidelines
Enhanced workplace safety
The accommodation of church services – with social distancing implemented
Haircuts by appointment
Farmers Markets to operate in limited capacity

Phase 2
Stay-at-home for vulnerable populations remains in effect
No social gatherings of more than 50 individuals
Continued social distancing and face masks recommended in public
Continued teleworking when possible
Further easing of business limitations

Phase 3
Safer at home for vulnerable populations
Removal of ban on social gatherings
Removal of capacity limits on establishments
Continue heightened cleaning and disinfection

More will be released over time as to the easing of business restrictions. From listening to the Governor it appears restaurants can re-open with limited seating. More to follow in the next few press conferences.
