Wellspring Fine Arts Camp

Younger children learned how to nail a Hedge Hog in woodworking class, while older kids made catapults and birdhouses.

On June 4-7 wellspring Presbyterian Church held a Fine Arts Camp.  123 campers aged 4 through 5th grade,as well as teen counselors, participated in the classes held each night from a 5:45 Bible lesson and musical event until 8:30. A snack and classes like cake decorating, textiles, braiding, theatre, hip hop dancing, arts, woodworking, sensory exploration, cooking, painting, clay, chess and more completed each night. Campers chose the classes they took and followed a schedule of class changes.

Campers learned clay modeling and pottery, too.

One of the keys to the camp is the expertise of the subjects taught by the class leaders.

Pressly Ann Laughridge and LuAnn Hatcher were among adult organizing leaders like Steve and Coleen Knox, Alix Groth and Rebecca Kyle. With plenty of adult volunteers and youth counselors, the experts pitched in! One of the woodworking volunteers was even a WWII Veteran!

“Learning a Bible lesson complete with verse each night and its meaning is part of our program,” noted Hatcher.

“This is the third successful year,” said Laughridge who lead a tour through various classes. “We have been pleased the Camp fills quickly each year. There is a $50 fee, but we do have scholarship money.”

On Friday night the Fine Arts Camp held a closing program which included a play, hip hop dance, cakes on display as well as an art show.

The colorful paper lanterns can hold a candle, maybe an electronic would be best!
