ICCD one of the international groups in Botetourt County ministers to the deaf

Deaf children are often ignored by other cultures. ICCD reaches out to give them a voice and skills to live in their countries.

We sometimes forget that hearing, speech, and sight are gifts. Our local charity helps children who are deaf in Mexico, Cuba, the Caribean and now Africa. Any donation will help. Please consider this worthy group.

From Tom Turner of ICCD:

I just recently traveled to Uganda, Africa, invited my good friend Don Eckenroth of Gentle Shepherd Hospice. Don has been serving in Africa for many years and is convicted that the vast majority of Deaf in Uganda and other African countries have no language by which they can hear and receive the Good News of Jesus Christ. He is absolutely correct!

What we found was disturbing but there is also a bright side. The disturbing part is that we discovered precious Deaf children who were being neglected, rejected, physically or sexually abused, and some even sold off as one might sell a pig or cow for profit.  Most parents of Deaf children in Uganda are embarrassed that they have a Deaf child and believe they have been cursed by some evil spirit or even cursed by God!  So many parents will simply hide their children by locking them away with no hope: no hope of friends, no hope of an education, no hope of a job, but worst, no hope of Heaven.

However, there is a bright side: “The Gospel changes everything!”  My good friend Don Eckenroth says, “We have launched Deaf Ministry in Uganda with rocket fuel that cannot be stopped”. Will you help us help these precious Deaf children find hope? With your help, we can give a precious Deaf child vital sign language, a Christian education, vocational training, and most importantly the hope of Heaven. We can do all of this for less than what most of us in America spend daily on a cup of coffee or soft drink. Will you help us help them?
