School board meeting highlighted Colonial Elementary

Colonial Elementary School received their National Blue Ribbon designation in Washington , DC and as Tammy Steiger, a faculty member who went along said, ” It was a much bigger deal than we anticipated.” She and principal Tammy Riggs went to the awards ceremony. The National prestige of the awrd will be celebrated all year at the school. On Jan. 9, the school is holding an event for the students and parents.

Riggs came back to much blue and blue ribbons on all the classroom doors thanks to PTA volunteers. “It has been wonderful,” said Riggs.

Superintendent John Busher gave an update on the new elementary school as well. Bulldozers are on site and earth is moving, but recent weather has been a hold up. 

Busher and Riggs spoke of how the faculty and staff have been to two prototypes at Prices fork and East Mont in Montgomery County of the school to be built in Blue Ridge. Riggs said, “We have looked at our furnishings what we have, the faculty has been on field trips as well as cafeteria staff. Everyone is having input. They are listening to us. One of the best things is we will have a work room with storage.”

Safety is first.  “We plan to honor the old building as we have coming on 5th generation students from those who have attended the school that still live in the area.” said Riggs.

Scott Swortzel the Blue Ridge school board member the praised the faculty for always working hard for students.

Definately it was a good night to be from Colonial.
