The James River near Glen Wilton

Dee Dee Bruce of Eagle Rock sent these calm photos of the James River near Glen Wilton. Glen Wilton is north of Eagle Rock but several miles south of the headwaters of the James where the Cow Pasture and Jackson Rivers come together. We had an earlier piece in August on the River at Arcadia near the Rockbridge County line.

Recreational value of the river adds dollars to the Botetourt County economy.

Some 40 miles of the James River run through Botetourt County. Muskie, small mouth bass and catfish abound in the river for sport fishing. Canoeing, Kayaking and tubing are water sports enjoyed by many in the good weather months. Of course, many use the river for swimming as well.

Check out the blueway trail, https://upperjamesriverwatertrail.com/ The  day on the river offers adventure and fun no matter where you put in by one of the many public boat ramps.
