Photo: The James River beckons for water recreation

The James River headwaters form in the north of Botetourt where the Jackson and Cowpasture rivers merge. It ambles some 40 miles through the county on its eventual trek to the Chesapeake Bay. Ample opportunities are available for recreation, fishing, small boating, canoeing and kayaking as well as swimming from one of a number of boat landings in the county. Botetourt County has an Upper James River Trail.  Check it out!

Get out and enjoy this wonderful resource!
