Clinton Assumes Role of Botetourt Board of Supervisors Chair

Date: January 23, 2024 (Botetourt County, VA) – Each year during the January Board of Supervisors Meeting, board members discuss the reorganization of leadership. On January 23, 2024, board members voted unanimously to elect Mr. Steve Clinton as the new Chair of the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors.  Clinton assumes the role from Dr. Mac Scothorn who served as Board Chair in 2023.  The county would like to thank Dr. Scothorn for his dedicated service in 2023 and is thankful for his continued leadership as a member of the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors. Scothorn represents the Valley District.

Clinton, who represents the Amsterdam District, has served on the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors for 21 years, which includes 5 years as Board Chair. He is a professional engineer, previously working as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at Hayes, Seay, Mattern & Mattern, and as the Senior Vice President and Regional Director of the Architecture, Engineering, and Planning Group at AECOM.  He is a retired Lieutenant Colonel from the United States Air Force where he served his country for over 25 years. Steve holds a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from the Citadel, a master’s degree in business finance from Radford University, and a master’s degree in civil engineering from the University of Virginia.  Steve is very active in preserving Botetourt’s rich history and is currently engaged with the Historic Greenfield Preservation Advisory Council and other preservation entities in the county.

“I am honored to take on the role of Chair of the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors,” says Mr. Steve Clinton. “All of us on the board take our jobs very seriously and we will continue to work diligently together to serve the community. I am so happy to serve alongside my fellow board members to help shape the future of Botetourt County,”

Mrs. Amy White was unanimously voted to assume the Vice-Chair role once again. She joined the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors in 2021.

White represents the Buchanan District. She is currently the Dean of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) at Virginia Western Community College and is a huge supporter of agriculture and the Botetourt Farmer’s Market. She lives with her family on their six-generation beef cattle farm and takes pride in continuing the agricultural tradition of Botetourt.

“Being appointed Vice-Chair is truly an honor,” says White. “I am grateful for the support of my fellow board members, and I look forward to working alongside them to continue serving our beautiful county and leading it into the future while respecting its rich history.”

During the meeting, two new board members were also introduced: Mr. Walter Michael who represents the Blue Ridge District, and Mr. Brandon Nicely who represents the Fincastle District.
