Save the date for Senior Focus on Sept. 16 in Eagle Rock

The Botetourt Senior Focus Day is planned for Sept. 16 11:30- 2 pm . The event is being sponsored by the Eagle Rock Ruritans, Botetourt County Sheriff’s Department Senior Focus Committee,  LOA and several area churches. One of those is Eagle Rock United Methodist Church which has generously allowed the use of the church parking lot since parking along the main street is limited.

The event was originally scheduled for the fall of 2020 when covid changed the plans! The committee members now feel comfortable going ahead with it as it will mostly be held outside.  There will be seating inside for a free lunch, prepared by the Sheriff’s Department,  with the windows open for ventilation. The hope is seniors will feel comfortable coming out while taking the precautions they feel necessary given their own health situation.

The goal of the event is to raise awareness of the many services available to seniors and help them access needed services that day, if possible.  For example, the Virginia Department of Health will be on hand to provide the hepatitis A vaccine and give out covid test kits and Botetourt County Fire/EMS plans to have a sign-up sheet for those who need their smoke alarm batteries changed.

Over $400 in gift cards are available, including a $100 gift card to Food Lion and several $50 gas cards made available through MAAG, Boxley, LOA, and others, which we hope will bring people out.

.Should the weather turn out to be too rainy, the plan is to cancel and reschedule in the spring of 2023.
