The newest Books2bricks project is underway a decade past the first one. The house is funded by The Botetourt Education Foundation and will be be built by the BTEC Building Trades classes for the next two years. Expected completion is May of 2023.
A Ribbon cutting was held on a bright, sunny November 10th in Fincastle. School Superintendent Dr. Jonathan Russ spoke to the importance of Technical Education. Bob Patterson of the Ed Foundation explained the process of funding the home building project. A number of Ed Foundation members and local dignitaries as well as school officials attended the event.
Teacher Phillip Simmons said, “I show them what to do and then let them do it.” He has 35 students in morning and afternoon classes getting the preliminaries underway.
Th Ed Foundation provided lunch for the young construction crew and Simmons who drives the school bus over and back to BTEC, prepared to carry on.
