New Assistant County Administrator named

Daleville – Alleghany County Administrator Jon Lanford has been named Assistant County Administrator for Botetourt County. Lanford has worked for Alleghany County since 2003 as County Engineer, Director of Public Works and Assistant County Administrator.

He was appointed Alleghany County Administrator in 2016. “Jon is a proven leader with a track record of success,” said Larrowe. “He knows BOCO and has acquired a broad range of local and state government experience that makes him a distinct fit to serve as Assistant County Administrator. He will add much needed system capacity and compliment the current Deputy Administrator and myself very well.”

“I’m humbled and excited to be afforded the opportunity to rejoin the Botetourt County team, some 22 years after Botetourt gave me my first opportunity to work in local government,” said Lanford. “Great things are happening in BOCO and I look forward to being a small part of a dedicated group of folks making them happen.”

Before working for Alleghany County, Lanford worked two years administering Botetourt County’s storm water and erosion and sediment control program. After Botetourt, he worked for the Virginia Departments of Health and Conservation and Recreation. Lanford is married to his wife, Coty, and has two teenage daughters, Carlee and Ella. Lanford’s employment with BOCO will start July 19, 2021. —
