Senior Focus from Botetourt Co. Sheriff’s Office performs outreach with Meals on Wheels

On Wednesday Mar. 24th School Resource Officers helped deliver Meals on Wheels in Botetourt County. It’s March on Meals month. Brenda Willis of the LOA who maintains an office at St. Mark’s UMC in Daleville, and her staff met with Sheriff Matt Ward as well as Fire and EMS Chief Jason Ferguson and Ron Boyd, Head of the Roanoke Valley Area LOA. School Resource Officers have no students on Wednesday, so they accompanied volunteers on the run to deliver meals to shut-ins.

Ward said, “This is our first effort. David Moyer will be helping set-up a list of area Senior Citizens who want to participate in our Senior Focus Program. You can reach Moyer at DMoyer@botetourtva.gov . He is also seeking volunteers to participate in the variety of activities the program hopes to provide.”

Willis of the LOA also said, “We are seeking new clients to service for Meals on Wheels.” Currently there are two hot meal delivery areas and one frozen meal delivery area. Meals on Wheels are prepared at the Canteen Food Service near Valley View Mall and brought here in heat retaining containers for distribution in Botetourt County as well as in cold storage for frozen meals.
