Breckinridge Elementary’s new principal is Wyatt Turner

Fincastle, VA — Mr. Wyatt Turner was named the new principal for Breckinridge Elementary
School at the November 12, 2020 School Board Meeting, and assumed his new responsibilities
today following the mid-year retirement of Mrs. Debra Deitrich.
Mr. Turner and his wife are both educators in Botetourt County Schools and have two children, a
son and a daughter. He earned a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies from Radford University, and
began his career in Roanoke City Schools teaching kindergarten, fourth, and fifth grade students.
After completing an M.S. in Educational Leadership from Radford University in 2015, he
became the Assistant Principal at Fairview Elementary School in Roanoke City. Since his
transition to Botetourt County Schools, Mr. Turner has served as an ITRT, Lead ITRT, and most
recently as the Assistant Principal at Colonial Elementary School.
“I am excited, blessed, and honored to be selected as the next leader of Breckinridge Elementary
School, and I look forward to meeting all the students, staff, families, and community members. I
am looking forward to instilling a love for school and of learning, where we are proud of our
achievements and celebrate together as a community. This has been a unique and challenging
year, but I look forward to supporting the school, working as a team, and learning and growing
together to make this year the best we can. I am grateful to be a Breckinridge Bear!”
