Kiwanis Educator of the Year is Janet Gogerty

Janet Gogerty, a Kindergarden teacher at Colonial Elementary School, has been named Kiwanis Educator of the Year. She received her award at the Oct. 8 School Board meeting from Botetourt Kiwanian Lynne Bolton. The award included the Kiwanis Bell with her name to be added and a $500 check.

Gogerty has taught at Colonial for a number of years. In a letter, Principal Tammy Riggs said, “These are her children. She has a love and compassion for her students. Her world is with children, not adults.” Assistant Turner Wyatt Turner detailed parents and students doing a drive-by of appreciation for Ms. Gogerty after schools shut down in March. “She lives in an out of the way place. That didn’t stop them.”

Congratulations to Ms. Gogerty on this well-deserved honor.
