Snow surprise on Thursday heads into a mixed weekend

Amounts vary across Botetourt. Three to four inches five miles west of Fincastle.

For those of us not paying attention, Thursday dawned with the threat of snow and a little after midday snow fell all over the county. By dark, it began to stick to rural roads in the usual cold spots and made mayhem on the drive home for some drivers.

The accumulation varies from 1-4 inches.

However, Friday should warm up to the upper forties, but by Sunday icy temperatures return after a rainy Saturday. Conditions may become what is called a “flash freeze.” With temperatures falling rapidly from the forties into the twenties in a short period of time and very windy, Sunday afternoon will be a different place called arctic chill.

So you might want to have some supplies on hand for Sunday into Monday just in case.
