Robin Reed of Fincastle honored by Supervisors for his years at WDBJ-7

Robin Reed, the retired anchor and former chief meteorologist at WDBJ7 in Roanoke, received a plaque with a resolution honoring his accomplishments at the January 24, 2023 meeting of the Botetourt County Board of Supervisors. The meeting was held at the Botetourt County Administration Center at Greenfield in Amsterdam.

Reed moved to Botetourt over a decade ago. He and his wife have settled into the county’s country-style of living, “feeding the deer successfully,” on his 11 acres, Reed joked with the Supervisors.

Reed, 67, spent 35 years on TV as first the weatherman, then chief meteorologist at Channel 7 before becoming a co-anchor of the 6 p.m. news cast in 2017.

The Resolution calls Reed, ‘“encouraging, a team player, a mentor, and a friend” and was known as one that would “bring calm amongst the chaos” and that he “represents the best of Channel 7 over the last 40 years.”’

Reed noted that he became serious about weather reporting during the Flood of 1985, which devastated portions of Roanoke and Botetourt County.

During his tenure with Channel 7, he spent numerous hours at local schools explaining weather to children, and local publications frequently named him Roanoke’s sexiest man in his younger years.

His last day of work at the station was December 1, 2022. He plans to continue teaching at Virginia Tech and working his farm. The Resolution says that Reed “has traded his microphone for a tractor.”
