Metalsa is Zero Waste!

Metalsa Roanoke Announces Goal to Achieve Zero Waste to Landfill

Date: October 4, 2022 (Botetourt County, VA) – Metalsa Roanoke is now the first manufacturer facility in Botetourt County and Metalsa Central Worldwide to achieve Zero Waste status. At Metalsa Roanoke Inc., a plant in Botetourt County, VA, has partnered with GFL Environmental and Wisdom Environmental, Covanta Environmental Solutions, and Environmental Options to reduce the waste going to our county landfill and is pleased to announce that our Botetourt County Plant is now a Zero Waste facility. This location, situated in the heart of the Blue Ridge Mountains, will be the first Zero Waste facility for Metalsa and is now the first manufacturer in Botetourt County and the Roanoke Valley to achieve this status.

“We worked hard to become a company with better environmental impact and are more ready to generate value and prosperity for our employees, communities, and society,” says Jorge Garza, Metalsa CEO.

At Metalsa we are commitment to creating a better world. With this in mind, we perform our operations focusing on pollution prevention to protect the environment while seeking opportunities to enhance it.

To celebrate this prestigious status, Metalsa Roanoke will be holding a celebration on

Monday, October 10, 2022, at 2 pm at our plant located at 184 Vista Dr., Roanoke, VA 24019

We are inviting the media, our partners, and the community to attend!

The zero waste to landfill program was set into motion in March of 2022 and became part of the plant’s standard programs in May. This is a plant-wide program that includes every department within the plant where all material will be recycled or used as a waste to energy. All Metalsa Roanoke general trash will now be going to Covanta in Northern Virginia to an insinuator plant to be used as waste to energy instead of going to the county landfill. All recyclables will be handled by GFL, and all non-general trash will be handled by Environmental Options and be used as waste to energy instead of going to the county landfill. All the plants shot dust and spent shot will be handled by Wisdom Environmental in Indiana and turned into steel creet (a form of concrete).

The conservation of all resources by means of responsible production, consumption, reuse, and recovery of products, packaging, and materials with no discharges to land, water, or air that threaten the environment or human health is our goal. To earn the Zero Waste status, 100% of Metalsa’s discarded materials will be diverted out of the landfill. We will be working with our partners to reduce our carbon footprint. Zero waste achievement is not only a way to help the environment but is also a way to become more self-reliant.

The Metalsa Roanoke plant is leading the way and will be the example for other Metalsa locations, with additional facilities being next on the horizon.

We as ONE TEAM ROANOKE can make the right choice for the next generation and leave no environmental footprint on our plant. We will continue to work with all company facilities to implement processes that promote strong stewardship for protecting our environment and for our economy. We are committed to using its business as a force for more sustainable practices among employees and consumers.
