Laymantown/ US 460-E completed decelaration lane is five years away

Accident about 10 days ago near the named intersection. School buses turn to go to Colonial Elementary School at the intersection

Funding for a deceleration lane at the intersection of US 460 and Laymantown Road has been approved, the Board of Supervisors learned at the October 26, 2021 meeting.

The intersection has been under discussion since the county began construction of Colonial Elementary School off Murray Street, which is reached via Laymantown Road. The addition of school bus traffic at the intersection has been a concern for parents and county officials.

Ray Varney with the Virginia Department of Transportation reported that while funding has been found for the project, construction is not expected to be completed until 2026. He did not go into details as to how the project would be funded.
