Dylan Kiger has served in Botetourt County at Troutville Volunteer Fire Department since 2014.
“Volunteering at Troutville is a very rewarding and exciting experience. At Troutville we run the most populated first due run area, covering everything from the urban parts of Daleville to the rural areas heading towards Buchanan. We take a lot of pride in what we do and the community we serve. We have voluntary duty crews to try and maintain in house staffing 24/7 to ensure quick responses. No day is ever the same in Botetourt County – the call types are endless. You can go from a wreck on Interstate 81 to Eagle Rock for a special operations call, so it stays interesting and you get to serve all of Botetourt. Botetourt County is a fast growing area with increasing emergency calls, so our volunteer departments recruiting and retaining new volunteers is essential to covering the wide range of calls. In Botetourt, there is one career fire engine located at the Read Mountain station, every other fire department in the County is 100% volunteer. All the volunteer departments in the county take a lot of pride in being all volunteer and serving our communities and we hope others continue to join and keep Botetourt as an area with strong volunteer fire departments.”
