Halloween in Town of Fincastle will not be a scheduled event due to Covid-19

Go ahead and carve a pumpkin just for fun, though Halloween is going to be different in Fincastle and beyond.

Halloween is not a scheduled event in the Town of Fincastle due to Covid-19. It is explained by a message from David Tickner, Town Manager on behalf of the Town and Town Council of Fincastle. Read as follows:

Town of Fincastle fall/winter events announcement

The Town has received numerous inquiries about Trick-or-treating for Halloween. Trick-or-treat is not an event sponsored or organized by the Fincastle Town Council. While town staff has taken on the task of assisting with the volunteer candy distribution to open homes, individual homeowners decide whether or not they want to hand out candy. Trick-or-treating has never been postponed or cancelled.

The Virginia Department of Health (VDH) and Center for Disease Control (CDC) have classified “trick-or-treating to a large number of houses or visiting multiple neighborhoods where participants go door to door” as the highest risk activity. With his in mind, the Town will not be participating in any Halloween activities. The safety and welfare of our community takes priority. Additional information on the VDH guidelines for Halloween can be found here:

Please keep the safety of your family and others in mind as you decide whether to hand out candy or take your children out in their costumes.

In accordance with the Governor’s Executive Order number 67, guidance from the Virginia Department of Health, and in the best interest of public health and safety, the Town’s annual Christmas parade has been cancelled. We hope to be back bigger and better than ever in 2021. Additional information on the order can be found below:
