1772 Rooftop on Main Opens August 28
1772 Rooftop on Main opens Friday in Fincastle
The most exciting thing to happen in 21st Century Fincastle opens Friday, August 28. The 1772 Rooftop on Main is an open air space with visuals from everything from the Courthouse and beyond to the Peaks of Otter and the National Grand Champion Honeylocust tree in the Fincastle United Methodist church yard. The Barkett family who operate the new eatery and bar also run The Pie Shoppe and Fincastle Café will serve food and drink from the beautiful new establishment.
They other two food related shops are housed in the building that once served as Fincastle Pharmacy. This 1772 Rooftop, is the crown gem for the building, a lovely open air space. The dining is a small plate Tapas menu with foods like Lemon Chili Shrimp and a Chacuterie plate of meats, cheeses and crostini. Two entrees will be offered: Pan Roasted Ribeye and Olive Oil Poached Salmon. The food will be served to guests on tables 6 feet apart and social distancing observed.
A full bar is offered with local names for signature cocktails like the Breckinridge Blackberry, The Bishop and Fincastle Mineral Water which play on the history of the Town of Fincastle. More cocktails are on the bill as well. There is a wine list and beer to complete the offerings of fine spirits.
The bar itself is an old airplane to house the beverages. “The bar is a classic Beechcraft V Tail Bonanza nicknamed “The doctor killer” because it was often flown by doctors and some didn’t do so well,” said Erynn Barkett, the proprietor, who has been a pilot for 30 years.
Barkett said in their travels, he and his wife Ginny have always been drawn to open air spaces for dining and drink. “This is a natural fit for us.”
They hired several experts for the Rooftop. Rob Rigatti who also designed The Pie Shoppe and Aaron Deal who has helped set up numerous Roanoke Valley eateries and is known for The River and Rail in South Roanoke. “We are so proud of our team,” Barkett explained. The team also includes Executive Chef Will Barkett and Alejandro Riveria.
Friday night for the opening, look for the featured back staircase behind the Fincastle Café. The roof top is supported by three-foot thick brick walls from the underneath where the other two other establishments are located. The views are spectacular. Nice seating, umbrellas and couches await the customer.
“We feel the history of the Town of Fincastle can be promoted here on the rooftop with the views. It is our plan that it will become a destination nd a reason for people to come to the town. We hope to show our appreciation to the many citizens that have supported the Fincastle Café and especially during the time of Covid,” concluded Barkett
