Taller wind turbines approved by Planning Commission

The Botetourt Planning Commission approved the taller wind turbines for North Mountain on Monday May 11 after a public hearing. The taller turbines will be up to 680 feet if approved by the Board of Supervisors later this month.

Numerous people spoke for and against the project which was originally approved several years ago and the county has established codes and guidelines for wind farms. The Fraley family has stated the wind farm has been in the planning stages for about 15 years.

The Wind Farm on North Mountain is called Rocky Forge. It is being developed by Apex Energy. With the taller turbines and an ask for an extension in time, the project and the changes approved May 11 will be before the Board of Supervisors at their May meeting.
