Century 21 Wampler Realty volunteered at Feeding America Community Solutions Center
Tis the season to give back. Donning hairnets and yes even one beard net, to be elves for a few hours lifts the spirits and helps feed children!
Century 21 Wampler Realty in Daleville agents Evelyn, Cathy, Jackie, Bernard and broker Todd Wampler spent 3 hours preparing meals for over 500 kids at after school sites in Roanoke. Those sites include libraries, recreation centers, boys and girls club and more.
Feeding America of Southwest VA ‘s Community Solutions Center prepares meals for kids k-12 in after school programs throughout Roanoke City where food insecurity is a problem. For some students, this afternoon meal gets them through the night until the next day when they return to school.
Connie, the kitchen manager said, “The kids look forward to the food after a long day of school.” The sites like the library, are a safe haven until parents, guardians get home from work. She continued, “We also have a summer program with a food truck. We spread out blankets and towels and the kids have a picnic atmosphere.”
The prepared fare for the day include ham and turkey subs, Chicken quesadillas, cooked green beans, and packing fruit cups and applesauce. All were put into containers to keep them food safe and then loaded into a truck so that the students had a good meal awaiting after school.
The volunteers also cleaned and washed the prep tools, pans and the areas used.
