Botetourt BOS news from April 23rd meeting

Georgia Knighton recieved a commendation for her years of service on the Eagle Rock Rescue Squad as ER Chief Darryl Johns looks on.

Georgia Knighton has spent about 20 years of her life running on the Eagle Rock Rescue Squad. She was honored with a proclamation by Fire Chief and EMS Director Jason Ferguson on Tuesday April 23, in front of the Board of Supervisors. She received a standing ovation for her dedication.

In other news, the 2019-2020 budget passed. (Anita Firebaugh will present the particulars in her column next week.)

Fincastle Supervisor Dick Bailey made a motion to add $50,000 in additional funding to Botetourt County Schools bringing their ask up to $450, 000 of the $500,000 in additional funding they requested. The monies were approved.

Folks who travel Rt 11, Lee Highway in Cloverdale will be pleased to hear that VDOT reported the road work near the Hollins stockyard should be finished by September. The road work near the railroad trestle at the Old Traveltown location is scheduled to be done by November.

Ken McFayden, Director of Economic Development, announced May is business month and the supervisors led by Chairman Billy Martin particuarly encouraged the support of Botetourt’s small business.
