Spickard will not seek re-election as Commissioner of Revenue
From Rodney Spickard, Botetourt Commissioner of Revenue
Dear Editor:
I have decided not to seek a third term to serve as Botetourt County Commissioner of the Revenue. I was first elected in 2011 and have served seven years. The office maintains the County’s Real Estate property records, including tax relief for the elderly and disabled programs, land use assessment program, as well as assessing personal property, business taxes including meals and lodging taxes and assisting taxpayers with state income taxes.
“ I want to thank the citizens of Botetourt for allowing me to serve as their Commissioner of Revenue. It has been a privilege to serve the people of Botetourt for two terms. We have five voting districts, Blue Ridge, Valley, Amsterdam, Buchanan and Fincastle. I tried my best to serve them all with the same amount of respect and service. I attempted to return every e-mail and phone call to answer any tax question that I am capable. If any citizen has property tax questions feel free to contact me as I will be serving out my current term which ends on Dec. 31, 2019.
The Commission of revenue position was created in 1786 and is one of five state constitutional offices. All five are elected positions by the citizens of Botetourt county. “It was a pleasure to serve with the current Sheriff, the Treasurer, the Clerk of Court and the current and former Commonwealth’s Attorneys and their staffs. I want to also thank the Board of Supervisors and County Administration for their support of the office.”
“I want to thank my wife, Laurie and our three children, and my family and friends for their support while I served in this capacity and as I pursue other opportunities. I love Botetourt Cunty and will remain here while being involved in community and work. I consider it an honor and a privilege to serve all the citizens of Botetourt County.”
Thank you,
Rodney Spickard
Commissioner of the Revenue for Botetourt County.
