Birds need your assistance in the snow

Wow what a blue suit!

When the ground is covered, our feathered friends of Botetourt have a hard time making dinner, breakfast or lunch. So now that the bears are hopefully asleep, bring out the bird feeder.

One fun thing to do with the family is go to Rockingham Co-op Ace Hardware on Cloverdale Rd and get some sunflower seeds that came from those beautiful fields on Beaver Dam Farm.  A nice addition to the feeder and you have helped a local farm!

What might you see at your feeder? Blue Jays, Cardinals, Wrens, Juncos, Doves, Carolina Chickadees, perhaps a Mockingbird.  At the backyard feeder, cats like to prowl so keep kitty in if you can. Squirrels can be a pest at a feeder. Put out corn in a dish for them.

Enjoy the fun of watching the birds, Bossy Jays drop seed, so often the action under the feeder is worth a look as well. Take pictures. Send us some.
