Lord Botetourt held large Assembly for Veterans Day
No other place in Botetourt County had a thousand attendees for a Veterans Day Assembly. Nor would two standing ovations for the veterans in attendance thunder any louder than that in the big gym. Lord Botetourt hosted their annual Veterans Day Assembly on Monday Nov. 12. About 4 dozen veterans attended the service that featured a Boy Scout color guard, choir and band music, a wreath laying and a breakfast for the Veterans.
LB grad Michael Lalush LBHS Class of 1997 who died in the Operation Iraqi Freedom was recognized for his sacrifice.
French and US dual citizen, Bernard Marie spoke of the Allies, GI’s in particular rescuing his village on the coast of Normandy on D-Day June 6, 1944. Marie said, “Everyone who wears a uniform should be shown respect for their service and dedication.” Marie served in the French army in the early 60s.
Two LB students Blake Markvart and Damion West will leave the school at mid semester to join the military. They laid the wreath on a table set in the Gym.
It was a great event on a day set aside to honor service and sacrifice by American military veterans.
