LBHS FFA Forestry Team

On Oct. 12th, the Federation Forestry Career Development Event was held at The Peaks of Otter. The Lord Botetourt FFA Chapter had six competitors: Brandon Creasy, Reagan Hall, Faith Settle, J.P. Whorley, Avaina Wilson, and Devon Wood.

These FFA members spent the morning determining the diameter of trees; deciding the number of saw logs a tree can produce using a Biltmore stick to determine the standing volume of the trees; identifying forestry equipment and common native trees of Virginia; making management decisions with the goal of improving a stand of timber; and proving their knowledge of topographical maps and compasses.

In the competition the members dominated by taking the top 5 placings, included were Aviana Wilson placing fifth high individual, J.P. Whorley received fourth, Reagan Hall received third, Devon Wood received second and Faith Settle was recognized as the high individual in the competition.

The top four individuals moved onto the regional competition held in Chatham, Virginia, on Oct. 16th. Aviana Wilson placed 10th high individual and Devon Wood placed third high individual, with the team placing third overall.
