Photo: Drug Take Back Day

On Sat. Oct 27 throughout the Roanoke Valley it was Drug Take Back Day. Thousands of prescription drugs and over the counter meds were turned in so the DEA can destroy them by incineration.
In Botetourt, the Botetourt Sheriff’s Department, Botetourt Prevention Coalition and Kroger joined forces at Botetourt Commons to receive the drugs.
Lt. Jeff Stritesky said, “408.4 lbs of unwanted or expired over the counter and prescription drugs were collected Saturday. We do this every April and October in conjunction with the DEA.”
The effort happens twice per year in the spring and fall. Not only is safety an issue, but the DEA prevents these drugs from leaching into area water supplies. Stritesky said in the spring he hopes to have a Buchanan location as well.

Good job, Botetourt!
