Fincastle Vineyard and Winery to close
In 2003, Owners David, Georgia Sawyer and son Richard Classey embarked on a new venture, the first vineyard of its kind in Botetourt County. A vineyard and winery in the Nace area. Part of the Botetourt Wine Trail, the winery hosted a multitude of events over the years. It also served wine from a beautiful tasting room and housed a bed and breakfast.
On Monday, the owners made a post on Facebook.
“After 15 years we are retiring from the wine making business. We are very grateful for all your support over the years. As we wind down our operations, we have marked down the last vintages of Fincastle Wines….”
“Thank you again. It has been fun.”

No date has been set for the closing, but a wine sale is going on as part of the closeout. Drop by and help them with a wine purchase.
(Editor’s note: The front fold story I wrote for the Fincastle Herald about Fincastle Vineyard and Winery in 2004 was one of the first stories I penned as a reporter. Godspeed to the owners.)
