Re Cap of the June Board of Supervisors meeting
The Board of Supervisors approved an agreement with the Virginia Opioid Abatement Authority in order to receive nearly $200,000 in grant funding when the Board met on June 27, 2023 at the Botetourt County Administration Building at Greenfield in Amsterdam. The Board also approved a new agreement with other localities to fund and operate the Roanoke Valley Regional Animal Shelter.
The opioid agreement requires the county to meet certain standards for the treatment, prevention, or reduction of opioid use within the county environs. The money may be used for drug treatment, law enforcement programs, recovery courts, or other programs that meet specific criteria.
Other Matters
The Board also approved $15,000 in matching funds for four library incentive fund requests. The money would be used for library furnishings in Fincastle and Eagle Rock libraries and for murals in Buchanan and Blue Ridge libraries. Buchanan’s request also has a “garden” component that would utilize exterior space at the rear of the building with the assistance of volunteers. Friends of the Library chapters at each library would match the funds granted by the county for the specific projects.
Additionally, the Supervisors approved a request from the Western Virginia Water Authority for a permit for a capital improvements project for construction of approximately 5,000 feet of waterline within the right of way of Sanderson Drive (Rt. 605) from Stonegate Drive (Rt. 1295) to Read Mountain Road (Rt. 654) in order to loop two existing water lines. The effort would provide more consistent water pressure within existing water systems and allow for the placement of several fire hydrants.
