Botetourt County Sees Increase in Recycling Activity

Date: March 3, 2023 (Botetourt County, VA) – Every year, DEQ publishes an annual summary recycling report that provides details on recycling conducted by each solid waste planning unit along with a state recycling rate calculation based on the data provided by these planning units. The required rate is 15%.  Botetourt County is pleased to report that for Calendar Year 2022, the county had a 19.7% recycling rate! Since 2019, we have seen a 24% increase in community recycling.

Virginia’s recycling rate sits at approximately 43%, so we still have some work to do!

Botetourt County partners with Recycling & Disposal Solutions to provide recycling for our community. GFL, Kelley’s Garbage Collection and Kessler participate.

GFL’s Convenience Center located in Cloverdale has a single stream compactor that will recycle:

  • Cardboard
  • Plastic
  • Paper
  • Glass

They also accept the following items for recycling:

  • Metal
  • Yard Waste
  • Tires
