Botetourt students perform in Summer 2022 Jersey Surf World Class Drum and Bugle Corp
Jordan Shrewsbury, Riley Rothwell both 2022 graduates of Lord Botetourt High School and Macy Williams a current senior at James River High School all auditioned for and earned contracts to be part of the Summer 2022 tour with Drum Corp International as part of Jersey Surf World Class Drum and Bugle Corp based out of Camden County,New Jersey. Jordan also auditioned for and earned one of the solo performances in the show.
Drum Corp International also known as Marching music Major league is made up of some of the most elite 14-21 year old musicians in the country.
The summer started with a very rigorous training camp that was held at Delaware State University for the majority of the month of June where they worked 7 days a week 10-12 hours a day learning and perfecting their summer 2022 field show titled “Meet Me in Atlantic City”
The summer competition tour started on July 2nd in Quincy Massachusetts and continued throughout numerous states in July and August. Some of the more notable venues included Wake Forest University in Winston Salem North Carolina and Navy Marine Corp Memorial Stadium in Annapolis Maryland. The summer of competitions, hours upon hours of training, practice and thousands of miles in travel all led up to the Drum Corp International 50th anniversary World Championships held in Indianapolis, Indiana at Lucas Oil Stadium, home of the Indianapolis Colts. Jersey Surf competed in the preliminary round and then went on the advance to the semi- finals during the final weekend of the competition August 11-13th.
