Board of Supervisors tables subdivision off Sanderson Drive
A project that would have brought 13 single-family townhouses and 15 single family homes to Sanderson rive was tabled after a public hearing at the May 24, 2022 Board of Supervisors meeting.
The New Beginnings Church of Cloverdale, with Al Woodie (Holly Hill Lane, LLC, contractual purchaser), had requested a Commission Permit for the construction of public roads and utilities; a rezoning of 6.868 acres from Residential R-1 to Residential R-3, and a special exception permit for the development to have a private road for the development.
The property is located at 8277 Sanderson Drive near several other subdivisions. The development would have a homeowner’s association.
The Planning Commission had recommended approval of the request with conditions, which included development of the private road to Virginia Department of Transportation standards even though the road would remain private and not become part of the county’s secondary road system.
The Supervisors had questions, however, about drainage and overflow of rain water into Cypress Court, a neighboring subdivision. The current plans called for drainage to be placed beneath the road and not in a drainage pond as is normally done. The Supervisors could not think of another development with such a waste management method.
After holding the public hearing and discussing the matter among themselves, the Supervisors tabled the request on Buchanan District Supervisor Amy White’s motion because Valley District Supervisor Mac Scothorn was not in attendance.
The proposed development would be in Scothorn’s district. The Supervisors are expected to hear the matter at a later date.
