Colonial playground to receive match from Recreation Incentive Fund
The Board of Supervisors agreed to give $7,800 from the Recreation Incentive Fund to Colonial Elementary School for new playground equipment at the Board’s February 22, 2022 meeting. The Supervisors also learned that the county’s Booster Club program would become centralized
The project would include 6 heavy duty tables in an outdoor classroom area, creation of a “Pedal Path” with tricycles, signs, helmets, cones, and soccer goals.
The total cost of the project is $15,623.97.
The Parks and Recreation Department has been considering a county-wide booster club since August, an official from the department said. The county-wide booster program, which would be a nonprofit entity, would likely set a consistent registration fee for programs and allow the Parks and Recreation staff to be responsible for ordering uniforms for players. Current booster clubs would be folded into the new single, county-wide booster club, which would be named Botetourt Recreation Sports Booster Club, or Botetourt Rec Club for short. There are presently six booster clubs in existence; none exist in the Eagle Rock area and Parks and Recreation officials are working to identify representatives from that area who would serve on the Board of Directors for the Botetourt Rec Club. The proposal would come back before the Board of Supervisors for final approval once bylaws and a Board of Directors have been finalized.
