Money unused by County passed into the budget by BoS

Botetourt County did not use over $6 million of its funding last year, according to information given to the Board of Supervisors at its November 23, 2021 meeting.

Finance Manager Tony Zerrilla asked the Board to move $2.17 million back into the current year’s budget for projects that were not completed in fiscal year 2020-2021.

Those items included the Botetourt County Courthouse renovation, ambulance and fire equipment that are not yet completed, and the Greenfield Historic preservation project, among others. Those were the largest line items in dollars, but many others included items like software upgrades, improvements at the Read Mountain Fire Station, and radio replacement for emergency services.

An additional unused amount of $4.2 million in unspent funding reverted back to the county’s general fund balance, Zerrilla said.

After a public hearing at which no one spoke, the Supervisors approved the transfer of funds.
