Details on the Food Distibution effort last week from Feed the Need Foundation

Feed The Need Foundation Distributes Food Boxes

On April 13, a whole lot of our neighbors in need got a boost from the Feed The Need Foundation, a new local 501(c)3 organization that focuses on providing food and clothing for families in need as well as toys and books for children.  Feed The Need distributed 18 tons of fresh food from the USDA’s Farmers to Families program.  The effort principally supported those in Rockbridge and Botetourt counties, but some organizations came from as far away as Roanoke, Amherst, and Alleghany counties.  The distribution occurred at the Industrial Park on Douglas Way in Natural Bridge Station with the generous support of operators and equipment from Byers Inc.  Other businesses supporting the effort included CHEFS Catering, The Front Desk Belle LLC, GifTicket Inc, and The Witt Stop in Buchanan.  Also assisting Feed The Need were volunteers from the YMCA, The Mayflower, AmeriCare Plus, Rockbridge County Schools, the Rockbridge County Sherriff’s Office, and cadets from VMI.  The event provided bulk food to nearly two dozen churches and organizations for further distribution, including the Minnick School. Afterward, individual families came to receive the remainder.  Overall, Feed The Need provided food for 4800 people in this one event.
