RCAHD looking for volunteers to call people to schedule Covid-19 vaccinations
Call to Action: The Roanoke City and Alleghany Health Districts is in need of volunteers to support efforts to schedule our population aged 65+ for appointments to receive their COVID-19 vaccine. These activities support health equity by increasing access to a prioritized population that has faced barriers to scheduling an appointment.
Description of Activities: Volunteers will work at the Roanoke City Health Dept (1502 Williamson Rd, 2nd floor), to register seniors ages 65+ for COVID-19 vaccine appointments over the phone. Calls are generally well-received and pleasant.
- Volunteers should plan to be onsite. Workstations are provided.
- Volunteers will be screened for COVID-symptoms and their temperatures taken. Volunteers should NOT plan to come in if they are symptomatic or have been exposed to COVID. Please wear a face mask.
Skills/equipment needed: Individuals should be comfortable speaking loudly and clearly on the phone with seniors, able to navigate spreadsheets and documents on a computer, able to treat data confidentially, and have empathy and patience. It will be helpful if some volunteers bring their own laptop or tablet to work from.
Sign up: To sign up, please click the link below. Shifts will be 8:30am – 12:30 pm and 12:30 pm – 4:30pm Monday – Friday. We ask that you arrive right at 8:30am or 12:30 pm for a brief “just in time training”. We may also share a brief training video with you to watch before your first shift. Please bring any drinks or snacks and dress comfortably.
Thank you so much – stay dry, stay safe, and I hope we can resume gathering soon!
