School Budget 21-22 begins to formulate

Botetourt County School Board met for a Budget workshop on Friday Feb. 26. To get state money, the school division will have to accept the 5% pay raise deemed in the stse public schools. “The funds would have to be done this year,” said Michelle Crook. Dr. Russ said, “It would behoove us to accept the money in combination with the state funds and County funding.” Two Supervisors, Billy Martin and Amy White are serving as ad hoc members on the Budget Committe for the schools. They asked numerous questions on the topic.

The General Assembly will have a calc tool to get the exact figures. “The State budget is still a work in process with the House and Senate compared to the Governor’s proposal.” Finance Director Brandon Lee said.

Good news aside from the State funds is it appears there will be no increase in Health Insurance costs for the 21-22 school budget. However,There will be an increase in technology due the additional Chrome Books for grades 5-12.

Salary and step increases are on the table. Includes 6 new positions including instructional assistants, maintenance, a gifted teacher and a new social worker.
