Breckinridge Sensory Zone

After seeing several inspiring videos of engaging, fun, and active learning spaces, teachers at Breckinridge Elementary decided that creating a sensory zone could help their students regulate their energy levels and have an exciting space to safely focus on their senses. Special education teacher Emilee Graham applied for and was awarded a Blue Eagle Credit Union Teacher Grant to pay for paint and supplies, and with art teacher Holly Clary, they were able to design and paint the sensory zone over the summer.

The sensory zone includes spaces for hopscotch, crab walking, walking on a balance beam, jumping along lily pads, spinning along an oversized sunflower, and more! The sensory zone is now used daily by all students at Breckinridge Elementary during recess, and is a great alternative to the playground, as well as whenever students need a quick movement break!
