School Board meeting info no virtual classes on Wed. Sept 16 and free lunches

Botetourt County School Board held a regular meeting on Sept. 10 at the Central Administration office on Poor Farm Rd.

The teachers will receive further training on Canvas on Wed. Sept. 16 so there will be no virtual school that day.

Jim Whitten construction project manager gave a detailed update on the new Colonial Elementary School Construction. Things are moving along well.

A;so the USDA announced it will continue the summer free food program throughout the Fall semester to every child in the Division under the age of 18.

Kristofer Clegg the new Operations manager, presented a Power Point on the School Nutrition program which can be accessed in its entirety on the School Division website under Board Docs on the Sept. 10 Agenda.

Highlights include Limited contact, higher frequency cleaning and touchless transactions where available. Grab and go meals, Cafeteria Queues, pre-order forms, meal delivery and the re-imagined salad and potato bar at several schools. Virtual students can pick up meals at the schools.

“There are 4,505 students currently enrolled which is less than the budgeted amount, ” said Dr. Jonanthan Russ, and they are keeping an eye on it. The first ADM count snap shot is Sept. 30.

The student fees, a resolution on CCAP Financial Assistance support not to exceed $12,000 through FY 21 and the revised school calendar were approved. The BTEC building of a house will be put on hold until next year. Other projects will be prepared by the building trades students this year.

Traffic Flow at Read Mountain Middle School is being studied in hopes of improvements.

The next Regular School Board meeting is Oct. 8.
