250th Anniversary Celebration Facts: the Botetourt County Historical Museum
The Botetourt County History Museum is located on Courthouse Square in Fincastle. It is an interesting place filled with information about Botetourt County.
It is currently not open due to Covid-19, but according to Weldon Martin, Executive Director, they hope to reopen by mid to late July by Appointment. Here are some facts:
The Museum has been in existence since 1966.- It costs $25 per year to be a member or a family and you get a newsletter, membership. Send a check, to PO Box 468, Fincastle, VA 24090. The museum sells books. Currently “Norvel” about by Norvel Lee by Kenneth Conklin, the book about our Botetourt Born Olympic Gold medalist is for sale among many history books and items like maps, like maps, ornaments.
Coming soon is the update of Botetourt History. It is called, “Botetourt Chronicles,“ by Ed McCoy. Every high school student will get a copy. Look for it late summer.
The Museum maintains a FB page for easy access. Every Friday in conjunction with Botetourt Couny, VA FB, they produce a photo and some historical information about Botetourt County! The next exhibit will be from the 200th bicentennial celebration in 1970.
Martin said, “We are always interested in the donation of artifacts for the museum.” Contact the museum.
