Thanks for the memories Coach Mike Goad!

Coach Mike Goad of James River High School retires!

James River basketball Coach Mike Goad spent 29 years coaching basketball after his stellar personal basketball career which includes being in the Lord Botetourt Sport Hall of Fame.

Goad coached at James River for 18 of his 29 years in coaching. He recorded 400 career wins. He retired from teaching PE and drivers education a couple of years back. He has always made a huge impact both on the court, as coach, as teacher and as a friend.

But best of all, he lead the team of the 2010 Knights that won the Stste 2A championship. What a time of joy for all of us there at the finals. A great day in the history of Botetourt County.

When Josh Turner, Country Music star performed at JRHS a few years back, Coach Goad stood smiling on the side of the stage. I was interviewing Turner and saw Coach standing there. “Mr. Goad is a state basketball championship coach,” I said. Turner immediately went over to shake his hand. Somewhere I have a photo of this, but could not locate it.

Tell me who was the star there!

Goad and his wife Cathy live in the Fincastle area and have two grown children. And in case you some how did not this. He is a real fan of Elvis Presley!

Mike Goad: Good Luck and Best Wishes. You rock!
