Tree removed from Court House for safety and 250th memorial
Botetourt County removed a Norway Spruce tree from the Botetourt County Courthouse lawn this week. The tree, donated about 30 years ago by The Honorable George Honts, a former Circuit Court judge who is now deceased, and his wife, Patricia, had become unwieldy and overgrown. Bailiff officers considered the tree to be an obstruction and nuisance, a county spokesperson said. Pruning was not feasible. The new space will allow the county to place a Sestercentennial memorial on the lawn to celebrate the county’s 250th anniversary. That event will take place May 30.
