Snow routes approved by School Board
The Botetourt County School Board approved the snow routes addressed at the Sept. and Oct. meetings at the regular meeting on Nov. 14 at the Central Office.
Dr.Lisa Chen, superintendent of schools, said, “I want to commend my staff for their hard work on these routes. We have been studying the routes and have used what know. Only about 80 families through out the county will be affected. Safety is our number one concern for students.”
Michael Beahm Chairman of the School Board stated, “This is likely something that has been needed for 25 years.” Often the southern end of the county where subdivisions are cleared of snow quickly, parents contact the school division about why school is still out.
Some of the snow routes are located in the southern end, but most are in western and northern Botetourt County.
Rather than the entire division being out of school on days four and five of a large snow, for instance, the problematic roads that are often gravel or hilly and the sun does not shine on them, are the snow routes. Therefore, parents would have the responsibility of meeting the bus at the appointed new snow route stop. If they cannot get there to the stop, the student will receive an excused absence.
The new routes since that they have been approved, will be posted on the Botetourt County Public Schools website to be viewed by the public.
